Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Welcome back SPF.

Re: Nathan Austin

Goes without saying that he will be released if anybody offers reasonable money for him. Been a while since we could cash in on a player.Yy

Steven Ferguson and look what happened to him!

Re: Nathan Austin

Yes but we still got £100k for him which for a guy who played about 12 games for us wasn't bad.

Re: Nathan Austin

He get away for free if a good offer comes in.

Re: Nathan Austin

How so when he's contracted till 2017? We would not release him from that contract unless someone paid the club to cancel that contract so he could sign another one elsewhere. In other words a fee.

I don't understand that one.

Re: Nathan Austin

His contracts cancelled if a full time club makes him an offer, I mean big full time club. East Fife receive a fee for bringing him on.

I haven't a clue what's in his contract but "big full time club" and "fee" would make it so subjective that either club or player would have an easy way out.e.g.
Hibs offer £750 pw and a £15k fee. Would both be happy ?
English Championship team offer £1500 pw and a £5k fee. Would EF be happy ?

Re: Nathan Austin

It's quite easy, he gets release from his contract if/when a full time club make him an offer. Nothing to do with East Fife.

Then what would be the point in giving him a new deal? He could of left for free at the end of the season anyway.

If you know that's what it says then that's it but I find it difficult to believe that any club would simply waive the right to any say in a negotiation, agree to waive a transfer fee but trust to luck that the purchasing club would pay generously for East Fife's nurturing of the player.

I agree no normal club would have a player on such a contract but this is East Fife we are talking about so anything is possible.

Re: Nathan Austin

Nothing to do with the player it's his agent that brokers the deal, East Fife could have refused.

So now it's a contract which has nothing to do with either the club or the player ? I think you have been speaking to Terry Lawrence.

Re: Nathan Austin

No muppet it's written into his contract that he will be released when a suitable team comes along. So he can sign as a free agent. It's not rocket science it's just business. East Fife to receive a fee.

Re: Nathan Austin

So it's a form of "Buy Out" clause like a thousand other contracts.

Now I know why I didn't understand it ! My friend who is a quantum physicist didn't understand it either. NTOC has gone off in a huff to play with his friends Gonzo and Animal.

Re: Nathan Austin

Not really I am just winding you up. You were biting though.

The last player we got a fee for was Paul McManus when he went to raith rovers . Think it was 30,000 with add ons

Re: Nathan Austin

If we get money for fash it will be no more than 15000 . We are playing 2nd football, no teams will pay alot for a player that has come from amature to the lowest league in scottish football. Fash had done well upto now and will earn a move if he continues.I dont think he is anything above 1st division but with a bit of coaching he could play maybe the championship.the defenders in this league are brutal and if he goes higher he will have to get stronger up top and hold tge ball a bit better. His biggest attribute is his pace. I hope if he does get a move we will use the money to get a well proven striker.

Re: Nathan Austin

I would fear if fash does leave we would struggle badly no many proven goal scorer no a days unless we can bring in Liam Buchannan or someone we would go back to the dark ages when deuchar left us for Gretna if we get promoted he and the club are progressing him we need players to build a team get above sides like Cowdenbeath who have been above us for years. League one would be his level and he would get that next season no need to sell or cash on a player for next season PAT.
No for sale.

I just don't see what the fuss in need to sell players when we're aiming to get promoted, look at Arbroath with Simon Murray? I dunno why a player would leave us to rot in championship team I rather stay at club and make progress maybe we did wrong and got nothing for Julen in the summer I just think we would struggle as a team.
