Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Comment on Elgin City game

Living in London and only managing to see the team two or three times a season, I am reluctant to pass comment on the performance of the team. However, having been at the Elgin City game, I feel compelled to mention something that has been bothering me. Having had to work hard to get back into the game after a pretty dreadful start, I thought we had Elgin on the back foot before half-time. I agree with Jonathan Page (recorded interview) that half-time came at a bad time for us.

It looked to me that we were going through the motions in the first 20 minutes of the second-half. Why? We should have been driving home the psychological advantage gained in hauling back a two-goal deficit. We did not threaten Elgin during this period of the game and looked happy to knock the ball around with no great intent. I became increasingly uneasy about us allowing Elgin to relax.

Listening to the manager in his recorded interview after the game, he said, "...quite a non-eventful 15-20 minutes (of the second-half)... it seemed that each team was happy to be at 2-2..." Well Gary, I was not happy and you should not have been so either.

The sense of injustice over Elgin's third goal and falling behind again had the immediate effect of stirring us into action. The tempo of our play quickened and we started creating lots of chances. The change in our play was so marked it has been bugging me since. Why could we not do this before Elgin's disputed third goal?
