Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Bother at Bayview

by ANON

As a lifelong supporter of East Fife FC it’s pretty fair to say that there is never a dull moment following the famous Black and Gold of Methil. Like any other club of our size we’ve had our ups and downs, some great moments and some not so great, but taking a trip down to New Bayview in the present day reads far higher on the bleak-o-meter than the looming figure of the derelict power station in front of our ground.
When former Cowdenbeath director Derrick Brown took over as chairman we had just achieved promotion to Division Two, and our attack was spearheaded by Kenny Deuchar who remains a legendary figure at our club to this day. We struggled to compete in Division Two, and despite an excellent start to the season we were relegated on the final day.
Since our return to Division Three, the regime of Derrick Brown has failed at every level to provide the fans with even a glimmer of hope that we might compete for a place in the dizzy heights of Division Two once more. Despite pleading poverty, Mr Brown rejected the offer of £10,000 from our supporters trust to buy 1000 shares in the club. He has since managed to drive away a great deal of sponsorship and local business support from Bayview, not to mention the hundreds of supporters who have gradually found better things to do on a Saturday afternoon.
This is more than a “bad spell” in this club’s proud history. You can’t alienate so many sections of support and still hope to survive, especially at a club of our size. Derrick Brown’s mismanagement of our club has put our future in danger.
Recently one East Fife supporter of 60 years resigned from the board because he had no confidence in Brown. Another of similar stature who had previously leafleted local areas urging people to come to Bayview decided not to attend a home game because things have gotten so low. A group of supporters, including trust members, supporter’s club members and other ordinary fans recently decided that we needed to take action, and so began a match day protest at home games on the mound overlooking our ground.
Derrick’s knee jerk reaction was not to listen to our demands, nor try to understand them, but to try and bulldoze the mound so that he could not see us.
He has failed to deter us however, and our desire to save our club is far greater than his desire to remain in control of it. Our protest numbers have risen to over 50, whilst attendances in the ground have plummeted to some of the lowest in our history.
Whilst he has accused us of “harming the club”, we remind him that he has the power to halt the whole thing by announcing his resignation. This is a terrible situation to be in but we feel we have been left with no choice.
History shows us that blind loyalty is not always enough to save a club. We have seen countless examples in the history of the Scottish game, such as Third Lanark, Airdrieonians and Clydebank.
Today it’s our turn, and we are fighting for the future of our club. We are not the first club and we certainly won’t be the last, but one thing is for sure. We will win.

That people is a statments. It's a pleasent change not to read a long statement not full of excriment about the Trust and peoples own lives.
