Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

At the end of the day, the people at these games were not true supporters.

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

Read earlier that 22500 V RR was our record home gate.
Biggest I can remember being at was about 14-15000 and I think it was Dundee. 22500 must have been something to see.

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

Its very interesting to note that the crowds then were so much larger than they are today but it begs the question.

What did the directors of the day do with the cash that was generated from these games. It is common knowledge that the money wasnt spent on players wages, seating or covered enclosers for the fans, the money was pocketed by the directors.

In short nothing has changed, throughout history football club directors have been guilty of missmanagement and lining their own pockets

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

I reckon that the record crowd at Bayview wasn't against Raith, but in an earlier game against Rangers.
Here's an extract from my book "On That Windswept Plain":
The 22,515 crowd that saw Ian Gardiner make his debut in the 3-0 victory over Raith Rovers in the 1950 New Year Derby is recorded as the largest ever assembled at Bayview. This, however, is debatable.
Not only did the Leven Mail give the attendance as 21,715, they stated that the 22,500 who paid to see the match against Rangers in November 1948 was still the record.
What seems likely is that the spectators seated in the 800 seat grandstand were not included in the 21,715 quoted in the Leven Mail for the Rovers match and, when these two figures are added together, the ‘record attendance’ of 22,515 is the result. Does this mean that the crowd figures quoted in the press at this time did not include those seated in the stand? If this is the case, then the attendance at the Rangers game could actually have been 23,300! Unfortunately, no official records exist at the club, so we may never know!

Jim
Also, the stand, in these days, held 1,100...

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

i want 2 go back to 1938 just for the enjoyment of the standard of football....somethin else or what?

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

Going back to 1938, 1947 - 1955 ish would be awesome. Even reliving 1972 or 1986 would do me to be honest mind.

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

Always wanted to use the tardis to go back to meet Laurel and Hardy as well as to see the Cup win, so 1938 would be a fine year to combine both. Don't want to be too greedy now.

Mind not get to see a cup winning side now but at least I get slapstick action from the clown of a chairman and the keystone cops security.

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

Thank goodness for Raith Rovers and their massive away support...

Re: Scottish cup winners 1938 - East Fife, attendances....

the only thing thats massive about the Rovers support now though is YOU
