Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Baikie bids to strengthen squad
By Ian Roache

EAST FIFE manager Dave Baikie is poised to make a double swoop from his former club COWDENBEATH as he builds his squad for next season.

Central defender John Ward and goalkeeper Andy Carlin parted company with the Central Park side earlier this week but both players look set to be reunited with their former boss within a matter of days.

Courier Sport understands Carlin (25) has agreed terms with the Methil side and although Ward remains out of contract, Baikie has expressed his interest in capturing the 28-year-old’s signature.

And with Fife-based midfielder Ally Mitchell already secured for next term’s promotion push, Baikie revealed he was also hoping to complete the signing of an unnamed player from the junior ranks before the end of the week.

“We’re obviously just working away trying to get players in,” he said. “Hopefully by the weekend something concrete will be in place and I’ve spoken to a number of players about coming here, so things are looking good.

“John’s obviously a player I worked with at Cowdenbeath and Tayport and I know what he can do.

“There’s no doubt John’s a player I’m interested in bringing here and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

Baikie added that he was disappointed that midfielder Gavin Beith had opted to sign for Forfar, as he had been one of four players he had particularly wanted to keep.

“We already had six players signed on a two-year deal so it was just a question of getting John Dodds, Gary Kelly, Greig McDonald and Gavin Beith signed up,” he continued.

“It’s a pity Gavin went to Forfar, but we’ve more or less retained the squad we wanted to keep here.”

East Fife have also confirmed their opposition on a pre-season tour in the north of England, with two games organised for July 21 and 22.

The Fifers play Chester-le-Street on the Friday night before facing Durham City the following day.
