Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Dougie Hope

Off topic in these times of crisis.

When I started following East Fife properly on the late eighties I remember Dougie Hope being called Dougie Hopeless and being a player the fans did not take to. Am I right, I might have it completely wrong?

I sat with a few beers last night and watched my compilation video of all the East Fife televised games/highlights over the years and saw some cracking goals by none other than the afore-mentioned.

He didnae look too bad at all. Better than a lot of the shite we've had playing for us in recent years anyway.

There's also classic footage of great interviews with East Fife legends Derrick Brown, Jimmy Bone and Gavin Murray.

Re: Dougie Hope

george dewar.best header of the ba.

Re: Dougie Hope

St Pauli Fifer,in my opinion you HAVE got it completely wrong.

Re: Dougie Hope

I just seem to remember him getting constant stick

Re: Dougie Hope

Tam, I thought you and JP were Dougies biggest fans.

Re: Dougie Hope

Did he not get called Dougie Dope as well? Or did I make that up?

Re: Dougie Hope

Dougie Hope was the best midfielder at the club......according to himself!

Re: Dougie Hope

Similar to yourself St Pauli Fifer, the 80's were my heyday of the East Fife games. I remember going to Stark's Park and seeing us getting gubbed 7-1 or maybe it was 6-1 and then away to Dumbarton a few days later to see us drawing 1-1. In that game there was a cracking goal by Dougie Hopeless, a 30 yard belter. He was either hot or cold with nothing in between, the type of player that would beat 3 players then trip over the ball.

On another note - your video that you were watching really interests me. I did have something similar myself, just any and everything on East Fife taped from the tele onto one tape. Footage of the 0-0 draw at Easter Rd in the Cup etc. Trouble is mine was on Beta and it is long gone. Is there anything you can do to enable me to get a copy? Is it something you want to do never mind be able I suppose is the first question. I can certainly copy things from video to DVD which might be good for all concerned.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Re: Dougie Hope

I did have the full coverage (including fans outside the ground) of the Rangers cup game when we lost on penalties.
I know who has it though.

Re: Dougie Hope

Poor Dougie used to get pelters. He was only about 20 and obviously lacked confidence.
Once at a Supporters Club forum I asked Davie Gorman why they didn't play Dougie on the stand side all the time as he always played better on the opposite side from the boo boys in the enclosure.
Probably a bit too radical for some but it's what I would have done if I'd been manager...

Re: Dougie Hope

I am getting excited by the prospect of a DVD showing TV clips of The Fife from times gone by. Surely this would be a money spinner for the Club/Trust if somebody was to produce something like that. It is bound to be worth £10 of any true Fifer's money.

Re: Dougie Hope

Sounds like a job for Andy English. Andy?

Re: Dougie Hope

There's was talk of doing such a dvd many months back. I know Donald Walker was interested and Jim C was involved.

Did nothing come of it in the end?

Re: Dougie Hope

I would imagine copyright may be the biggest stumbling block.
