Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

ELGIN CITY 2 EAST FIFE 3

EAST FIFE boss Dave Baikie was delighted to gain a hard-fought three points after victory at bottom-of- division-three Elgin.

The Fifers should have had the points wrapped up by half-time after Craig 0’Reilly’s strike sailed past keeper Keiron Renton on the half hour.

Renton redeemed himself seven minutes later by saving O’Reilly’s spot kick, and the visitors were frustrated further when two shots were blocked on the line.

Craig Smart put East Fife two up in 54 minutes, but the Highlanders’ Adam Moffat struck back two minutes later and Elgin were on level terms within the hour when Paul Kaczan drove home Steve Mackay’s free-kick.

The Methil men battled back and extended their lead at the top of the table when O’Reilly volleyed in the winner.

“It was a good win but it was hard fought,” said Baikie. “I wasn’t unhappy with the result at half-time and then we came out and scored to go 2-0 up. Credit to Elgin for coming back and equalising.

“We showed a lot of character and O’Reilly scored a good goal on basically his first game for us.

“It’s been difficult to get him in because other players have been playing well but there was an opportunity this week.”
