Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Scot Symons Autobiography

Can anyone tell me the name of Scot Symons autobiography?
I am interested because my father Willie Salmond
gets a mention in the autobiography for the work he carried out for East Fife some 58 years ago.
Thank you

Re: Scot Symons Autobiography - FAO Jim Corstorphine

I was looking for a Scot Symon Biography last Christmas as present for my dad tried Amazon and a cuouple of search engine's couldn't find any mention of a book specifically about him, however he is mentioned in plenty other people's books. Perhaps our resident historian can shed some light on it, over to you Mr Corstorphine.

Re: Scot Symons Autobiography

Sorry, guys, I've never come across Scot Symon's autobiography and I didn't realise he'd written one.
I do remember seeing a book in Ottakars a couple of years back that was about famous people associated with the Scottish game and there was a chapter on Symon that stated in the first paragraph that he'd started his first job as manager with "unfashionable East Fife". Needless to say I closed the book and immediately returned it to the shelf as the author obviously didn't know what he was talking about. East Fife could hardly be described as "unfashionable" in the late 1940's and early 1950's, when they were one of the most respected sides during the Halcyon Years of the Scottish game!
BTW - do you mean "autobiography" (written about the subject by the subject) or just plain "biography" (written about the subject by someone else)? Might narrow down the search when asking around book shops.

Re: Scot Symons Autobiography

Thank you for your interest in trying to help me find the book.
I was fortunate to be an east fife supporter during these halycon days when such great players such as Alan Brown,Charlie Fleming and Jimmy Bonthrone could not get in the team.
I still lookout for the East Fife results every Saturday although my local team is now Hereford United. I am most impressed by your excellent website and the amounts of hits you obtain.Keep up the good work

Re: Scot Symons Autobiography

There has never been a Scot Symon autobiography or biography.

Hello Bobby

I guess you're Eric's brother.

Good to see that you're still keeping in touch with events at Bayview.

Some things change, but EFFC faithfuls go on forever.
