Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Fifers make heavy weather of Rovers

Fifers make heavy weather of Rovers

EAST FIFE gaffer Dave Baikie was right to warn about complacency just before his side came up against Albion Rovers at New Bayview on Saturday.

For the Coatbridge boys belied their lowly league position, gave the Methil men a good scare and shared the points during an entertaining 90 minutes.

The home fans were knocked back somewhat when the tireless Tommy Lennox chipped in at close range from a Brian Felvus cross in just 10 minutes to open the scoring.

The Fifers were up for a scrap and replied just three minutes later through a Kevin Gordon snap-shot at the edge of the box, but barely 20 minutes were on the clock when Albion’s Phil Creaney made it 2-1 for the visitors.

Baikie’s half-time team talk did the business, however, and it was a different East Fife that emerged from the tunnel, Ryan Blackadder hitting the Albion bar within just five minutes of the restart after which big Craig O’Reilly hustled the equaliser over the line.

“But I’m not happy about getting a point,” said Baikie.

“We were at home but didn’t play well during the first half, not by our standards at least.

“We didn’t start the game well. The two goals were very preventable and very disappointing.

“Having said that, we showed a lot of character in the second half, despite having had a stonewall handball turned down in the first half.

“We had chances to be ahead, Craig Smart definitely had a couple of good chances and Ryan Blackadder hit the bar but overall I’m disappointed. The bottom line is that it’s two points dropped as far as I’m concerned.

“But I was never comfortable because of the conditions (heavy rain) and Albion Rovers worked their socks off—if they were on the attack my heart was in my mouth and I’m sure it was the same for them too.

“With those conditions anything could happen.”
