Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Identify the Players!

I've uploaded four team photos from the 1950's to:

www.putfile.com/dyker

I know who some players are, but can anyone name them all?

Re: Identify the Players!

Fantastic photos Jim !

Re: Identify the Players!

Brilliant pics Jim. I'm pretty sure you've managed to get Harold Davis in an East fIfe shirt in the August 1955 photo. My guess is that this was at the traditional Black and Golds v Whites trial match at the start of the season and the picture of the team in white were their opponents.
Unusually the "reserves" played in the Black and Gold that afternoon.
Teams were:

Black & Golds:
McCluskey, Newman, Adie, Newman, Davis, Christie, Wilson,Kirkwood, Gardiner, Newman, Keddie

Whites:
Curran, Emery, S.Stewart, Bonthrone, Finlay, McLennan, Wright, J. Stewart, Plumb, Leishman, Matthew

Re: Identify the Players!

So therefore:

Black & Golds:
Back (L to R): ?, ?, Davis, McCluskey, ?, ?
Front: ?, ?, Gardiner, ?, ?

Whites:
Back: Emery, Bonthrone, Curran, McLennan, Finlay, S. Stewart
Front: Wright, J. Stewart, Plumb, Leishman, Matthew

And we can't assume that both teams lined up for the photo in the same formation as Centre-half Davis is on a different side of the goalie than his counterpart Willie Finlay...

The forward line should, however, be:
Front: Wilson, Kirkwood, Gardiner, Newman and Keddie

Re: Identify the Players!

Jim

One of the things I'm working on at the mo for the site is putting up as many squad photos as poss.

Just to see the changes year by year.

Do you have lots of these already on the pc, as scanning them in is a pain in the arse!

Re: Identify the Players!

Brilliant, Ste .... er ... I mean Angus!
I should be able to take individual player photos out of these pictures now for use in the 'Past Encounters' articles in the programme (although I did know about six or seven of them already, honest!).

Gof - when I get a minute I'll send you all the team photos I have.

Re: Identify the Players!

No rush Jim, but that would be great.

Even if you could stick them on a disc (I'll give you a blank one in return!) then that would be fantastic.

If I ever get it all finished, it's going to be a really cool section

Re: Identify the Players!

Gof, you can steal these team photos if you want. I'm home at Christmas and can look out the large scans for you.

Re: Identify the Players!

Jim & Angus

I can't identify the three players from the trial match who went under 'Newman' but the rest are as follows:

Back row: Newman, Newman, Davis, McCluskey, Christie, Adie.
Front row: Wilson, Kirkwood, Gardiner, Newman, Keddie.

I have a feeling that the 'Newman' in the front row might have been Rose, but I can't remember why that rings a bell.

Re: Identify the Players!

Superb, Donald. Thanks for the info!
