Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Baikie’s half-time talk does the trick (Courier)

Baikie’s half-time talk does the trick

AS FAR AS half-time team talks go, EAST FIFE manager Dave Baikie’s encouraging words turned out to be priceless on Saturday as his side went on to earn a 1-0 success over Queen’s Park.

Swirling winds were never going to be conducive to free-flowing football, but the visitors looked the more assured and likelier to score in the first period, while East Fife were forced to rely on a more direct approach to goal.

But if the hosts were asked to stand up and be counted in the second period, they certainly produced the desired response, with Kevin Gordon’s goal just two minutes after the restart enough to push the Fifers eight points clear at the top of the table.

“It was always going to be a tough game and Queen’s Park are one of the best sides in the league, so I’m delighted to get the three points,” Baikie said.

“They are a good team and we had to plan accordingly but it was important for us to get to half-time without losing. I think when we did that we were able to switch things around and get at them more in the second half.

“We’re a good second-half team and after we scored we had a few good chances to finish it. Obviously they came back at us late on, but we defended very well when we had to, so I think we deserved it in the end.”

The victory certainly strengthens the Methil men’s title hopes, although Baikie isn’t getting carried away.

“It’s like everything else, experience goes a long way, but it’s all about motivating players and getting the right mentality going into games,” he added.

“I’m not looking anywhere but to Dumbarton in two weeks’ time.

“We’ve just got to keep producing performances and moving on to the next game.”
