Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Billy McGann

I've just heard that 1960's East Fife goalie Billy McGann has died. I don't have any further details, but there's to be an obituary in Saturday's programme.

Re: Billy McGann

Remember Billy very well.
Sorry to hear the news. May he rest in peace.

Re: Billy McGann

My Grand dad took me to my very first EFFC game at Bayview and Billy McGann was in goal. RIP.

Re: Billy McGann

Didn't really know him but met a couple of times.
I certainly remember him as a great success with Esat Fife.

Re: Billy McGann

I have to say i was not old enough to see him or remember of him , but many of my workmates when i asked who they thought was the best goalkeeper in the recent all-time best east fife team said mcgann.

Re: Billy McGann

Sad news indeed. Billy was keeper during my first season of watching the Fife (68/69) and was in the middle of a battle with Dave Gorman for the No. 1 shirt at the time. He eventualy lost that battle - does anyone know where he went afterwards?

I've dug out an old programme from a League Cup match with Berwick on 17/8/68 and Billy is featured in that. It mentions his fight to regain his place in the side after injury "which he lost to young Dave Gorman following the injury". Young Dave Gorman? Well it was nearly 40 years ago...

Re: Billy McGann

St Mirren, Cowdenbeath, Hamilton, Forfar then disappeared from senior football in 1973. He had four clubs after East Fife, but only played 21 league games in total. In other words, it was all downhill after Bayview. Which is as it should be.
