Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

East Fife lose league leadership

A 2-0 defeat at home to Berwick saw EAST FIFE surrender the division lead they had held for some six months, with the victors now setting the pace.

It was a hugely disappointing result for Dave Baikie’s men, who dominated most of the game but were caught cold by a quick one-two at the start of the second half.

East Fife created a veritable barrowload of chances in the first 45 minutes, with Paul Hampshire shooting inches over after a neat turn, Graham Gibson coming even closer with a glancing header and Craig O’Reilly seeing a header hit the top of the bar and Wee Rangers keeper Gary O’Connor superbly block a close-range effort.

The feeling was that the Fifers might pay for such proligacy in front of goal and so it proved within two minutes of the restart.

Berwick won a corner on the right and when the home defence failed to clear, Robbie Horn stepped in to apply the killer touch.

Worse was to follow three minutes later. Fife keeper Iain Ross spilled a run-of-the mill effort from Gary Greenhill and Kevin Haynes followed up to fire home.

There was no way back for the Methil men after that. They huffed and puffed and put in plenty of effort, but it carried little threat and O’Connor & Co. dealt comfortably with any danger that came their way.

Said manager Baikie, “We were the better side in the first half and had the lion’s share of possession and created the best chances.

“I expected the same in the second, but it seems we cannot buy a goal just now.

“I thought there was a handball and an offside at Berwick’s first goal and for their second our goalie made a blatant error.

“But even after that, we were still the team going forward and the one that had the bulk of possession—I wouldn’t say it was smash and grab, but it wasn’t far short of that.”

Added Baikie, “It might not be a bad thing losing the lead, because that carries its own pressure. We have had a sticky patch, but I know we will get through it, we just need a goal to turn things around.”
