Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

EAST FIFE have had an ambitious approach to bring Gretna striker Kenny Deuchar back to Bayview turned down.

The Methil side first expressed an interest in the 26-year-old last month when he was relegated to the Gretna bench and subsequently handed in a transfer request.

While it is understood the club would be able to afford his wages, Gretna are unwilling to loan the striker and have demanded nothing less than the £80,000 asking price—a tag which East Fife are understandably reluctant to pay.

Meanwhile, the Fifers are monitoring Ayr midfielder Paul Walker after the player indicated a wish to move away from Somerset Park.

The 29-year-old can play on either wing and manager Dave Baikie is interested in securing his services.

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

Thought that would happen, spoke to kenny on sunday and I mentioned that to him that we might be able to afford a decent wage for him but could not afford the transfer fee,I think it is terrible that Gretna are holding on to him,I do not think that they would be were they are now,if it had not been for Kennys goals, they are trying to ruin his career good job he has another two on the go.

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

Since the Trust seem to be pals with Mileson, can`t they have a word with him?

BTW,what ever happened to the money they were supposed to be getting to buy shares with?

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

good point. We could see if brooks is still keen to make a donation, then use the dough to buy deuchar - i like it.

Been watching the king kenny saga from the morton end. They were very keen on him, and reckoned they could afford him - but the deal never got off the ground - "What can we do when the player isn't intrested in talking to us" was the quote from the morton manager.

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

Hey Zak

I know Kenny has another career but you say he has two, what is the second?

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

he is a resturant owner near the falkirk wheel

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

fucks sake , not only is he a qualified medic but he has a burger van as well.

how the other half live eh!

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

No, You must have misheard, in Falkirk a restaurant is what we call a wheelie bin !

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

Brooks Mileson may be generous but he aint stupid and he aint the manager either. As much as the majority of Fife Fans would love to see Deuchar back at Bayview Brooks Mileson is hardly gonna pay for it.

To answer your question Eck, Brooks Mileson did give money for shares to The Supporters Trust and offered to help buy out those who had proxies for Derrick Whatisname. However events overtook that and the payroll clerk was on his way.And the rest as they say is history

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

I like that one mark wheelie bin, near the falkirk wheel, may thats what he should call it,he got a good write up in the dailly records mag last week apart from the chips.

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

If the people running Gretna had their heads screwed on they'd realise what a good offer we were making for the services of KD and how it would benift them as a club.

No one is going to spend 80k on a guy who's playing Scottish 1st division reserve football. However, if he were to move to a league winning team in a division where he's a proven goal scorer then perhaps some of the big boys would take a look and decide to put in an offer.

Both clubs would win from this situation,at least in the short term, Gretna by not paying his wages between now and the end of the season and East Fife for fielding a player we could never afford to buy.

Who knows after we've gained that much saught after 1st spot Gretna could also get a big pay off from a club eager to get a classy striker.

If common sense were to prevail then everyone could be winners

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

Common sense, Scottish football? C'mon Walter get real...

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

or we gain promotion with the help of KD (hes good but he cant do it on his own) and we get more sponsorship, higher gates etc and we can afford to pay the 80k - right thats it Im back on the cider

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

Strongbow or Scrumpy Jack? Or for a decent bargain, the 4 tins for £1.99 at Lidl are pretty good.

Re: Fifers unsuccessful in bid for Deuchar

According to this post on the Football365 forum Deuchar has gone to Northampton on loan.
