Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

national stadium

Can anyone post where the national stadium of any country is NOT the capital city of the national team ?

Re: national stadium

I would guess Hampden as Glasgow is not the capital of Scotland.

Re: national stadium

probably oz, usa & The Netherlands....... and England of course - their's is in another country!

Re: national stadium

Most countries dont have a national stadium!

Re: national stadium

In Italy and Spain they just move it around like England are doing while Wembley-less - for example our game against Italy in March is in Bari, while last time it was in Milan.

Re: national stadium

In Germany and Holland, they also move around from city to city. In Germany, this is to allow fans from different regions in the country to see the national team.

In Holland, for qualifying games, they choose from Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Eindhoven. Friendly games against lower opposition can be played in Arnhem or Utrecht. More and more teams are moving to new multi-purpose stadiums like in Alkmaar and Groningen so these could/will be also used in the future for friendly matches.

Re: national stadium

An alternative to this question.

Which governments do not have their seats in the capital city of that country ?

Re: national stadium

Great Britain (ruled from Washington). Yes George, no George, 3 bags full George.

Re: national stadium

Australia, Brazil, South Africa, Holland?

Re: national stadium

Correct about Holland but I'm not sure about the other 3. In Oz the capital is Canbera and also the Govt. seat I think.

Re: national stadium
