Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Re: eastfife v celtic aug 23rd 1972

Remeber this game well. It was a League Cup group match, we lost 2-3 but came from 3 down to almost nick a draw. I think Kevin Hegarty got both goals. Those were the days...

Re: eastfife v celtic aug 23rd 1972

You are correct, BP, Hegarty scored both goals.
Crowd was 9,152.
It was a League Cup sectional fixture and we'd already drawn 1-1 with Celtic at Parkhead the previous week. Other teams in the section were Stirling Albion and Arbroath.
We qualified for the next round, where we beat Partick Thistle over two legs.
In the quarter final we lost to Aberdeen.

I remember the quarter final second leg game too Jim. Lost 4-1 to the Dons (7-1 on aggregate). I think the scoreline flattered Aberdeen quite a bit mind! Knocking out Thistle in the previous round was a bit more than it seems at first glance - they were the holders at the time.

Re: eastfife v celtic aug 23rd 1972

Aye - the Partick win against Celtic when the 'Jags' were 4-0 up at half time before eventually winning 4-1. Former East Fife favourite Alex Rae scored for Thistle that day.
By sheer co-incidence, I've spent the best part of last week surveying telecomms supply to the signalling equipment on the new Stirling to Kincardine railway line in the company of a Partick season ticket holder!
We had a great blether about players who have appeared for both clubs (and there's quite a few!!), but our best laugh was the fact that the crowd at Hampden when Thistle won the League Cup doubled after half time. When the half time score was announced on radio and TV, thousands of Rangers supporters quickly made their way to Hampden to enjoy the spectacle and see the cup presented!!

Remember being at Broomfield the day of the Jags league cup final win. Was at the semi when they beat Falkirk 2-0 and quarter final when they beat St. Johnstone. Gave up final victory to see East Fife draw 1-1 with Airdrie
