Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Fifers’ fightback stuns Elgin

A STERLING never-say-die attitude and some fine football saw EAST FIFE bounce back from a shock early penalty to be worthy 3-1 winners against Elgin City at New Bayview.

There were only seven minutes on the clock when Elgin’s Craig Campbell was brought down in the box and Martin Johnston had no problems in sending John Dodds the wrong way.

Unfazed, the Baview boys battled back into the game with a great equaliser from Jonathan Smart—a Paul Doyle free-kick on the halfway line arced high out to the right and Smart’s spot-on volley looped behind Keiron Renton.

Smart’s celebration was exuberant but deserved.

Craig O’Reilly settled matters by netting two crucial goals.

The first came just minutes from half-time when he dispossessed a sloppy defender and snatched the lead whilst the second finished was at the death— Paul Walker showed his tactical nous by putting O’Reilly through and whilst the first thundering shot was parried by Keiron Renton, the rebound was smashed home.

East Fife gaffer Dave Baikie was without doubt satisfied with the performance.

“I was just told them that this is the first time we’ve gone behind in a game then won,” he said.

“We’ve come back and drawn but never won so that’s a really big thing for me. It shows that there’s character there now.

“Compared to last season that’s almost a new team out there because there’s been so many changes but these things develop over a long period of time, not overnight.

“For two weeks on the bounce now Craig O’Reilly has scored two goals and his workrate has been superb. Paul Ritchie has led the line exceptionally well—he’s not the quickest of players these days but he holds the ball up really well and his experience is tremendous.

“The boys up front worked really hard and defensively we were sound at the back, we never really gave Elgin a chance—I don’t recall John Dodds having to make a save in the game.”

Ryan Blackadder, again, put in quite a shift and this too was noticed by Baikie.

“Ryan’s obviously a player who needs to be on the ball and he can do things with the ball whilst realising he has to work with the rest of the team as well,” added Baikie.
