Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Fifers not giving up the fight

East Fife’S Stevie Nicholas insists the Fifers aren’t settling for a play-off place after Saturday’s 2-0 win over MONTROSE.

“We’re taking every game as it comes, but we still want to win the league,” the forward said.

Nicholas experienced play-off success with Partick Thistle last season and should the Fifers find themselves in a similar position this season, Nicholas is confident about their chances.

“There’s a good buzz around the club at the minute and we know we can beat anybody on our day,” he said.

“I tasted play-off success last year with Partick and it’s all about who wants it on the day.”

The introduction of Nicholas and Ryan Blackadder shortly after half time was the game’s turning point as the Montrose defence immediately began to struggle with the pace of Nicholas especially.

East Fife manager Dave Baikie was quick to heap praise on his substitutes.

“It was a mediocre first half, but the double substitution made the difference and in the end we were the deserved winners.

“We want to win every game from now until the end of the season, and next week we’ve got Queens Park which is massive.”

Full-back Jonathan Smart headed the opener in 66 minutes from a Lloyd Young corner and Nicholas sealed the victory in the final minute, beating two defenders before firing past Andy Reid.

It was the visitors who controlled most of the first half and they might have taken the lead after just three minutes as John Baird fired a Mark Docherty free kick over the bar.

Andy Rodgers then went close for the Gable Endies on several occasions within the first half- hour and might have done better when he shot wide from four yards when unmarked.

Montrose manager Jim Weir was left cursing his side’s missed chances.

“We had at least three or four gilt-edged chances in the first half.

“I’m disappointed for the players as they put so much into the game.”

Weir, however, has his eye firmly on next season’s campaign.

“For me it was always about building for next season, but just now I need to build confidence,” he said. “There’s no better team in the league than us, but we have a mental block.”
