Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Anyone go to this last night?

Unbelievable scenes.

One of the best concerts I've ever been too.

I thought I was getting too old for all this!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Overated.Give them another 2 years and they will be history.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Ye, they're sh!te and by the way, p!ss off to your own site!!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Raith Rovers Fan Witnesses Unbelievable Scenes!!!

Did the assemblage start clapping along in time to the music?

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Drew, that seems to be what people think, especially if you're my age (33).

I struggled to give my spare ticket to any of my pals for free, but I have seen a fair amount of bands and they beat most of them, especially Oasis. Maybe you had to be there.

I would say their first album is def not overrated and hope that the second album is more of the same. Reviews seem to state that it's just as good.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Ha ha! Nice one Angus.

Halfway through the set two guys jumped from the balcony above onto the top of the speakers. Must have been around 25 feet up and started dancing.

The band stopped mid song, one guy jumped back to the balcony and was caught by his pals and dragged back up, the other guy went down the way! As he was carried off by security the band asked him to come on stage. He went on, kissed and shook hands with every band member and before he was about to be escorted out did a running jump into the crowd and started surfing. At that point the band carried on from where they had finished. Cue bedlam.

(there was much more, but I wont bore you)

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

''There was much more but I wont bore you''

Thank f**k for that!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

And here's me thinking that not only is this a top notch football forum, but that it is also meant to be a bit of a music one too?

My mistake, the MUSIC section on the home page must be a mirage.

Next time I'll do a review of the flippin Eagles for all you old fuds on the site!!!

Happy Mondays and Willy Mason gigs next month, better watch out in case I chat about them too.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

I can't be doing with all these southern twits with guitars. What happened to the local bands? Ones we could be proud of, ones who we could invest in and put our money back into our own economy.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Jonathan

Was at the gig as well last night. Cracking night.

I think their new stuff sounds pretty good bar one song which didn't really grab me.

The guys on the speaker were mental. What was all the shouting of "who are you" up at the balcony all about? Could make out a word Alex was saying!

Going to see Willy Mason next month as well. Will look out for someone that looks like a Rovers fan

Need to get the music section of the site back up and running. Feel free to contribute any gig reviews and anyone else for that matter!

Age shouldn't matter for music. I'm 38 and the day I don't get excited by hearing a new band then that'll be the day I've gone deaf!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Ha ha! GoF's my new best pal and he's like the King of the website and stuff!!!!

GoF, the who are you bit was to a lady who was standing at the opposite balcony from speaker man.

Every time he looked up she'd quickly try and show her chest, the only problem was that it was a dress she was wearing and couldn't get it (the dress) up quick enough, making a complete tit of herself. In the end she jsut took the dress off and stood for a song in her bra. He wasn't having any of it.

The only reason I mentioned the gig over other ones I have been to was that it was flippin amazing.

I couldn't get tickets for Edinburgh to see Willy Mason, so it Inverness for the Mondays and Glasgow for WIlly Mason. Saw him touring with Radiohead in Copenhagen and Amsterdam last year and thought he was pretty good.

Am I the new zak?

GoF, you going to Connect?

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

It was our only hope. That one day he'd get a friend and go away and leave us in peace. Against all the odds, he has found a friend! And irony of ironys, it's the guy who runs this website. Jeez.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Think its great that a band like the A.M goes to the Caird hall in Dundee. Not much up on the music scene these days, but the only bands that usually go there are the likes ov Bjion again and other trib bands. However in the late 70s early 80s you got the likes ov thin lizzy,u.f.o playing there.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Ah!! Somebody else that remembers UFO!!! Saw them at Glasgow Carling last month..still awesome!!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

It's a shame because I alwaus think it's a good venue. Near to Fife and has the seating upstairs and the big space downstairs for the nutjobs. I'm sure there's a wee slope too which helps.

Seen Bjork, Radiohead, Deacon Blue (shhh...) and Arctic Monkeys there.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

J, I actually agree with you on this. The Caird Hall is great place for a gig, and if memory serves me right, everybody from Sinatra to the Beatles have played there.
Mind you, the first time I went to it, I was 4, and I saw the wombles...
Street cred takes a nosedive after this post.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

arctic monkeys are a pretty decent band, better than most of the drivel about at the moment. by far the two best live bands ive seen are the view (who were outstanding at the barrowlands last week may i add) and also the killers, who both put on outstanding live shows. x

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Hay Pingpong.Check them oot on youtube.Classic songs, including stuff wi Shenker.Saw some stuff from there latest dvd also.Got ti agree wi ye.Still magic.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Enfifer, cheers for that, some classic clips. Actually Lonefifer was the first person to get me into UFO, brought Strangers In The Night album [best live album ever made!!] intae school!!, just a few years ago noo!!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Nay bother Pingpong.Glad ye liked it.Strangers in the night has ti bi wan o the best live albums produced. Also think the band iz prob the most under rated rock band, considering some o the piss that made it big.Maybe if they had a settled line up,e.g Schenker going awol every 5 mins, things might ov been different fer thum.
Johno, another local venue, which iz no longer used(i don't think),iz the students union in St.Andries.Think bands that have played there include Wild horses,Tigers ov pentang,Texas,Transvision vamp(you'd be it that wan lounge lizard) and the mighty Iron Maiden.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Mmmmm,Wendy James...I could tell you a few stories about her!
Wasn`t at the Vamp gig,but was at the Texas one, just cause Sharleen was there and I could tell you a few stories about her too!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

I saw Teenage Fanclub tour Grand Prix at the Union. That was some concert.

I love a bit of Fanny in a student union.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Been away down south for a couple of days. No gigs though sadly

Yeah Jonathan, I'm going to Connect and T as well.

Connect is shaping up to be a pretty good festival. Looking forward to seeing the Jesus and Mary Chain again

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

See. Me and GoF are frikkin tight these days.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Lounge Lizard, I was at the Texas gig with you... how many years ago was that?? They were good back then, 3 guitarists...twas a good gig.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Pinpong, remember the Horse gig with all the carpet munchers in the front row drooling!
Disgusting!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Aye, remeber that also, not a pretty sight!!
What aboot one of the best gigs ever... Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie at the Adam Smith Centre, superb and all washed doon wi a dozen tins o Macewans export!!

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

Yeah that was a quality gig.

Mind them coming out and everyone was sitting and Martin Metcalf just said "on your feet" and the whole crowd got up en masse.

Re: MUSIC - Arctic Monkeys, Caird Hall, Dundee

I read recently that he had formed a nex band. Anyone know the name?
