Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Courier Report of Stranraer Match

Fifers book final place
EAST FIFE boss Dave Baikie praised his players for securing their place in the second division play-off final, despite a 1-0 second leg defeat at Stranraer.

The Fifers had all but booked their place in the final following a 4-1 victory against the Blues at New Bayview on Wednesday, but Baikie had warned players not to let complacency cost them their chance.

Apart from a couple of early attempts at goal by Michael Mullen and David Hamilton, East Fife keeper John Dodds was rarely troubled and fans had to wait until 64 minutes for the opener which Stranraer striker Paul McGrillen scored when he shot from close range following a Michael Moore cross.

Baikie praised his players for a “spirited performance.”

“We were the better side over the two games and deserved to go through,” he said.

“I thought it would be tight and we would be under the cosh for long periods, but as it turned out it was the other way around.

“Over the two legs we created about a dozen chances against a team from a higher level and I’m very pleased with that.”

The Methil boss said he is looking forward to going head to head with Queen’s Park.

“There’s no denying that Queens Park are one of the best and most challenging footballing sides in the third division but I am confident we have what it takes to see them off over the two legs to gain a spot in the second division,” he continued.

“Our record against them is better than theirs is against us and our performances have been spirited so far, but there’s no denying it’s a big battle ahead.”

Stranraer may have suffered their second relegation on the trot, but manager Gerry Britton has vowed to remain at Stair Park, saying, “I’m totally committed to this club.”
