Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

O/T Computer Problem SOS Cyber Solutions man

Computer appears to be goosed, message coming up is that there is a primary hardware fault. Is this repairable, would it be worth getting it repaired or would I be better buying a new machine?

It's a Hewlitt Packard effort, with all the softwear stored in a segregated part of the hard drive and I do not have any softwear back up discs, so presumably if I needed a new hard drive I would also have to buy all new softwear?

Re: O/T Computer Problem SOS Cyber Solutions man

Stuart it is most likely the hard drive, but impossible to say without looking.

It will be repaireable, depending on the age of computer etc will decide if it is feasable to repair.

With it being HP you can purchase a set of recovery discs direct from HP (they charge a fortune) the alternative is to have windows re-installed using the existing serial number (you loose all the fancy HP branding)

hope that answers your questions a little.

Re: O/T Computer Problem SOS Cyber Solutions man

i think it is possible to restore to their factory setup with a new hard drive, i managed that with my dell laptop when i upgraded.

you may need something like partition magic; create the same size hidden sections on new hard drive, copy over all hidden files from old to new, make the hidden section bootable and reboot.

it is easier said than done but it is do-able.

but hopefully not.
