Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

PAUL'S GOT WHIT IT TAKES TO BOW OUT A WINNER AT 40
JUNIORS EAST
By Kevin Mcgoldrick
PAUL TAYLOR admits his time is almost up after 16 years at Whitburn - but he's determined to have one more shot at glory.

The 40-year-old midfield player, who has racked up more than 650 appearances for the club, wants to go out on a high by winning back his place in the team.

Last night Taylor said: "I've been with the club a long time but good things must come to an end.

"There have been plenty of disappointments but I've also had success.

"Losing in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup twice plus getting beat in the final were all low points but I made up for it by going on to win the trophy in 2000.

"I have actually been with the club longer but broke my service when I was at East Fife for two years.

"For the past few seasons I've thought about quitting but for the love of it I decided to keep going.

"I haven't made up my mind what I want to do - I feel fit enough to continue playing but I couldn't join another junior club.

"If I play on it will probably be in the East of Scotland League but for now I want to enjoy my remaining games with Whitburn."

Taylor believes that - even without him - the club are heading for success and he insists it will all down to manager Derek Strickland.

He said: "Derek re-signed me from East Fife and despite him leaving and returning I believe he has assembled a terrific bunch of players who could go on to lift the Super League title or even the Scottish Cup.

"He has been a huge influence on my career and probably extended my stay longer than someone else would have. He knows he can call upon me and I won't let him down.

"When I leave it will bring down the average age and we are on course to finish third in the league which is better than last season.

"The club is bigger than the player. All I've been is a loyal servant."

Meanwhile, Camelon and Bo'ness fight out an East Region relegation battle tonight.

Camelon will be without broken-leg victims Ronnie McPherson and Jamie Winning and Bo'ness will wait until nearer kick-off before naming a team.

Tomorrow Whitburn face Lochee United minus Andy Roberts but United should have Jonny Thomson available.

Relegated Kinnoull add Mark Gordon against Oakley who will be without Peter Bannantyne and Ross Morrison.

In the Premier Division Kelty may add Iain Mauchlen against a full-strength Armadale. Arniston have everyone to pick from against a Lochee Harp side minus Brian Craik.
