Laser show on Swami Vivekananda’s visit

Mysore Palace (added by RKD Web Admin)

Mysore, April 11, 2012, DHNS :

The city will be hosting two events, that would remain etched in the memory of Mysoreans for long, in commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

A laser show recalling the young saint’s visit to the city has been planned on April 22 at palace premises, as informed at the meeting presided over by Deputy Commissioner P S Vastrad in the city recently. It has been organised by Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama here.

The laser show will also highlight the culture and tradition of the State.

Niranjan Mutt

Another long awaited event, the dedication of Niranjana Mutt in restored form, is also scheduled on the day at 6 pm. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will dedicate the memorial of the Swami on the premises of the mutt. It was the same mutt where the great monk had stayed during his visit to the city on the invitation of then Maharaja.

However, a part of the land abutting the mutt belongs to the education department. Former minister and MLC C H Vijayashankar who was also present at the meeting exhorted the department to hand over the land for the memorial.

A trust has been formed to oversee the works of the memorial and the State Government has already released Rs five crore towards the project.

In his reply, deputy directo of public instructions Basavaraj said a proposal has been already submitted to the higher ups to hand over the land.
