Try and Catch Me Speech

One of my all time favorite scenes in Columbo is the speech that is delivered by the detective in Try and Catch Me. As you know, in his speech Columbo described his career, the various murderers he faced, and his feelings toward them. For some odd reason the murderer that initially comes to my mind is Bart Kepple. I was wondering if anyone out there has a particular murderer or murderers that come to their minds when he makes that speech. I would be interested to hear commentary.

By the way this speech was made during the final season of the 1970's Columbo. I believe it was an appropriate way to send off the series.

On a personal note, I worked in probation and parole and often felt similarities to the individuals I supervised throughout the course of my previous occupation. Columbo's speech truly reflected reality.

Re: Try and Catch Me Speech

Actually, the 70's series concluded with Last Salute to the Commodore, but the show was revived though a deluge of complaints by dedicate viewers. That's why we saw such a distinct change in the demeanor (and approach) of the main character, who morphed into a reality I never really could warm up to -- that is, of an endearing slob into an intellectual Godfather.
