Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally received the Veterans Identification Card I sent for in January (see website link). Apparently the U.S. Veteran Compensation Programs office (non-military organization) was swamped with requests for the cards as indicated in their email reply to me a week ago:

"the number of Veteran ID Card requests in the last 180 days has been in GREAT demand from veterans all over the world. New hires are in place to help speed things up. We appreciate your patience and once again sorry for the delay."

Thus, if any one else without retired status or living in a state that now issues them (like Virginia) has applied for one (so we don't have to carry around copies of our DD Form 214) - don't give up, there is still hope that you will get your card also.
