NavFac Argentia 1966-1969

Would like to find some of my old NavFac Argentia friends. I was stationed there between June 1966 and July 1969. Some names I remember are John Ellis, Charlie Kohn, Rick? Adair, Fred Schneider, Jerry Salsbury, Paul Nix, Robert Wester and Mike Wold. There are definitely others but I am getting old and forgetful. Also I was in Key West in late 1965 to summer 1966.

Re: NavFac Argentia 1966-1969

John,
I too was stationed in Key West Feb, Mar 1965 Left KY September 1965 with orders to Arg. Was there from 1966-1970, Remember +Ray and Bob Burnell, George Widenor, Charlie Heffner,Gary Hemmer, Jay Cane, Donny Dowden, Roger Parker, Dave Williams, and many you mentioned. One low point was standing in full dress blues at the DAC center in the display room for a Change of Command at COSL. I always held that as one of the most stupid evolutions I have ever had to participate in.

Chuck,
I was also stationed in Key West during that time frame. I was in STG-A school. After "A" school I went to San Diego for A2, and SQS-23 school.

10 years later I was behind the green doors.

John -

I was stationed with several you mentioned: John Ellis, Charlie Kohn, ?Adair, Paul Nix and Mike Wold.

I sent you an e-mail which expands on this posting - may be useful in your search for former "shipmates".

Bingo! John I remember you (maybe you don't remember me), but I am in contact with Glen McEntire, Frank Rauschenbach, and Norm Marks. Dave Lay was another contact but sad to say, he passed away a few years back. The names you mentioned really bring back the memories.

Re: NavFac Argentia 1966-1969

Hey John, you old silver corvette driver you! You, Freddy Keith and I went through Fleet Sonar School (and were transferred to Argentia) at the same time and graduated from FSS and B-school in the same class, too. I remember that Freddy and I volunteered for mess cooking, while you decided to do it later than sooner -- but, wisely, made 3rd class right away, and so never had to do the pots-and-pans thing. Good luck to you, you old Newfoundlander!

Life has been good here. I live in Lancaster, MA; had the opportunity to graduate from two state colleges; had a good career with Raytheon Company, and later, with teaching; have been married to the same fine lady for 42 years; and am currently retired. Right now, I'm sitting here in St. James City, FL and the temperature is a balmy 88 degrees. Back home in mid-February.

Ray Ronald and I had a great reunion in Washington, DC about 4 years ago, and the old "lumberjack," as Norm Marks used to all him, looks terrific and has a beautiful family. I'm thinking about making the drive to Michigan next summer to reunite with Norm and his wife Dawn and other Wolverine friends.

Nice to see you're still around and trekking, you old rounder!

"Money's in the sea, B'y" -- and remember Dave Lay, who badly wanted to reunite with his old Newfoundland friends and who kept us one-and-all laughing with his terrific sense of humor.

Your Argentia shipmate,

Glen McEntire

Re: NavFac Argentia 1966-1969

Hello you old sea dog,

It has been a long time. I remember you well. Thought several times about our group of guys. Great to hear from you!

I am glad you got a good career out of it. I started to go to shool but got married and had a family right away. I just never got there. But I have some really good jobs and retired about 6 years ago.
I remember you and Brian quite well.

Married for 42 years too. Same good looking gal. Have three kids and six grandkids. I live in Parkville, MO a suburb of Kansas City MO right on the Kansas/MO border.

Hey I went to pots and pan in Key West waiting on school. That was an experience. I forgot about the NFLD deal.

I tried looking for Brian Keith about 5 years or so ago but never found him.
I remember going to his house on leave in between schools.

I will not give true feeling on this forum but it was 6 degrees here this morning.

Got any pictures of Dave Lay and any others?

Glad to hear from you. Keep in touch.
An old shipmate,
John Burrell

Re: NavFac Argentia 1966-1969

I left Arg in 66 for FSS Key West, A1,A2 phases. I believe the "Adair" you mention was Jim Adair who I believed was married to a Newf named Elenor. I remember several other names you all mentioned.

I remember Fred Schneider from Antigua (65-67). Fred wouldn't want to take the E-3 test because he said he didn't want the extra responsibility!
