Remember Bataan, Remember Mariupol

A brigade of Ukrainian marines defending the city of Mariupol said last Monday that they are running out of ammunition after nearly seven weeks of fighting.

"We have been defending Mariupol for 47 days. We were bombed by airplanes, we were shot at by artillery and tanks. We kept up the defense by doing the impossible. But any resource has the potential to run out," said the 36th Brigade in a Facebook post.

The group said they were initially equipped with guns at the beginning of the conflict, but have not received any additional ammunition since.

"For more than a month, the Marines have fought without refills of ammunition, without food, without water," they wrote. "The mountain of wounded makes up almost half our crew."

"The enemy gradually pushed us back. They surrounded us with fire, and are now trying to destroy us," the post read.

The post noted that surviving brigade members are now defending the Azovstal iron and steelworks plant near Mariupol's port.

The marines added that the men whose limbs were unbroken and "not torn off" had returned to the ranks to fight. With no infantrymen left, the group said that artillerymen, cooks, drivers, and even orchestra musicians have been involved in shootouts with Russian forces.

"We are dying, but fighting. But this is coming to an end," the post read. "Today will be another extremely difficult fight. Ahead lies death for some, captivity for others. Dear Ukrainian people — we ask you to remember the Marines."

"Do not talk badly about the Marines. We have done everything we could, the possible and impossible. We are FAITHFUL FOREVER," the post added.

The Pentagon has barred all US Marines from traveling to the Ukraine on military leave. Over 3000 US Marines had applied for leave to travel to the Ukraine as of last Wednesday.

On Friday, more than 1,000 Ukrainian marines defending the besieged city of Mariupol surrendered and the port has been captured, Moscow has said, as the presidents of four countries bordering Russia arrived in Kyiv in a show of support for Ukraine.

In one of the most critical battles of the war, Russia’s defence ministry said that on Wednesday 1,026 soldiers from Ukraine’s 36th Marine Brigade, including 162 officers, had “voluntarily laid down their arms” near the city’s Ilyich iron and steelworks.

No mention of any wounded was made.

God have mercy and protect these men and women... one and all.

Re: Remember Bataan, Remember Mariupol

It's really difficult to see through the fog of war to determine truth. Just saw an abc news report indicating that the ukraine marines have NOT surrendered! Disinformation is rampant!

Re: Remember Bataan, Remember Mariupol

Vladimir Putin is quoted as follows:

"Once again, invite all those who have not yet laid down their arms to do so," Putin added. "The Russian side guarantees their lives and their dignified treatment under the relevant international legal rights. All those who have been wounded will be provided with qualified medical help."

The Russians are unwilling to spill more Russian blood fighting these bad-assed Marines. They will encircle them and starve them out.

Re: Remember Bataan, Remember Mariupol

A senior U.S. defense official said the Pentagon does not assess that the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol has fallen to Russia, countering claims by President Vladimir Putin Thursday.

Re: Remember Bataan, Remember Mariupol

The battle is over! Only 250 of the 6000 defenders survived. God bless those brave men and women who sacrificed themselves for their homeland.
