Re: Recognizing Shipmates

I just want to clarify my previous comment. Not only did the implementation of SURTOPS standardize the qualification program it also standardized the system wide operating procedures. From one site to another things were done pretty much the same with the exception of site-specific procedures such as watch bills, station peculiarities, etc.

Re: Recognizing Shipmates

John,
Your kinds words about our time together are appreciated more than I can express. Our collaborative efforts made COSP a unique and highly respected duty station in our system.

The efforts to get everyone's knowledge level into uniformity was a significant step forward that George Widenor, Gary Peterson, and many other talented and devoted OT's contributed to. Those were the best of times, and we got to get the ball rolling for a whole generation of analysts that followed.

I can't omit a couple of people whose leadership and knowledge were critical to efforts to get the ball rolling. They are men we all know either by reputation, exposure to their efforts, or through working relationships.

When you think of leaders and technical proficiency the names of Will James and Bruce Rule are truly legendary in our System. They along with George Widenor and Bob Vanalstine are worthy of every accolade they are given.

Those of us who were lucky enough to work and have collaborative projects with them, will never forget the impact they had on our Navy careers.

I hope that the memories I have of all the truly outstanding people I was privileged to meet and work with will remain with me forever.

Thanks old buddy... you're the best!

Rick
