Sue Jackson asked me to inform the SOSUS Community of Walt's passing on September 30, 2024, after a short illness. He passed quietly with family and will be missed by many. No further details available at this time.
More sad news. Walt was a good man, always upbeat and smiling. May he rest in eternal peace and his family be given comfort throughout this difficult time.
This is, indeed, very sad news. Walt and I served together in Bermuda from 1966-69 and became best of friends and fishing, drinking and (well, you know) buddies. He was a professional in our craft and our families were close and we became life-long friends, visiting each other when possible during our remaining Navy and retirement years. It has been a long time since our last get-together, and I will miss him dearly. My sincere condolences to his wife, Susan, and his entire family. I know where you have gone Walt and I'll "catch ya' later" shipmate. Maybe we'll go fishing once again. I salute you for your service and dedication to our country and your family. Fair winds and following seas, my friend.

I'm not sure if I crossed paths with Walt but his name is very familiar. Whether I did or not, it always sad to see a fellow shipmate transfer to that final duty station in the kingdom of our lord. Hopefully when the day arrives, we will all be reunited once again. Sue, Please accept my heartfelt thoughts and prayers. Rejoice in the good times and great memories.

Walt and I were plankowners in the pre-comm crew for NAVFAC Guam. Many great memories laughing and joking together. Sad to hear that he has passed over. I'm sure he was welcomed by all his shipmates and pray that he is new again. He was a good man and shipmate. My sincere condolences to his family.
