Give Local Piedmont is in its final stretch! Tuesday May 13th is the main day of giving for Give Local Piedmont's 2025 fundraiser. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support The Cold War Museum and its mission to preserve Cold War history, honor Cold War Veterans, and educate future generations on the Cold War and its legacy.
This year, the Cold War Museum is supported by a $5,000 matching grant. Any donation received between now and Tuesday, May 13 will be matched up to $3,500! In addition, donations made during the Power Hours of 6-7 AM, 3-4 PM, or 11-11:59 PM EST on May 13 can help us win additional prize money! Donations made after May 13 will also count towards the fundraiser, but may not be matched. CLICK THIS BUTTON to make a donation:
Don’t let the current fundraising numbers fool you. We have a $5,000 matching grant, a $1,500 donation, and over $4000 donated so far which means we are more than halfway to our modest $15,000 fundraising goal. You can help at any time!
We humbly ask that you consider making a donation, especially if Cold War history is important to you or your family. If you would like more information about The Cold War Museum and its work, the latest edition of the Museum's Cold War Times newsletter is available online at https://coldwar.org/uploads/documents/ColdWarTimesSpring2025.pdf . Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Francis Gary Powers Jr

Thanks for your post Jim and posting on Facebook. Definitely a worthwhile cause. Hope the goal is reached. Hope to get to that museum one of these days. We used to go to Vint Hill commissary when we lived in Fairfax from 82-85.
Just curious: Do you know if there has been any further news/progress on authorization of a Cold War Medal/ribbon? I think we (and many others) did our part, but not always recognized - at least in wider circles.
Not sure why I'm rambling on about this. Never talked about it before - and way too old to care much about it myself. Just a thought.

Yes they did. Anyone who served from September 2nd 1945 through December 26th 1991 and spent at least 24 consecutive months during this period and were deployed outside the United States for at least 30 days are eligible. If you do a search of military medals you can purchase one for $3.50 if you so desire. It is actually a pretty sharp looking medal.
Hey Randy, glad to see that you still have a sense of humor. This is a good thing for an old guy. Hope all is well with you and your family in Florida.
