Passing of Tony Alfieri (Edited by Author)

This morning, Jim Donovan posted this in the OTs and OTAs/OTMs group on facebook:

I was saddened to hear the news of Tony Alfieri’s passing this morning from his wife, Rachel Phyllis Williams.

Tony was a wonderful man and a great friend, father, husband, son and shipmate. He would be honored to know he will be remembered as a great OT.

Rest peacefully, Master Chief
Tony Alfieri. We have the watch.

He also provided this:

Here is Phyllis‘s note from last night.

“Tony Alfieri was one of the strongest people I have ever known. He successfully fought 5 cancers, but unfortunately, he had a stroke on the 24th of May, and tonight he lost his battle with stroke-related complications. You can rest easy, Tony. You are no longer in pain. I have no doubt you are now with your Mom, Dad, Uncles, my Dad (Tommy), and sister (Willena). When the good lord decides it is my time, we will be together again.”

I was honored to have known Tony from our time together at Cape Hatteras around 1981-1982. We worked together in the Training division. He was the Training LPO and I was an OT2 at the time.

He was a good friend and provided some very wise counsel to me at a time when I was having some issues with "life". I have kept and used the knowledge gained many times in my life.

So, goodbye my friend. Fair winds and following seas. I'll meet you at the big fac in the sky and we can fly some kites and bs about cars some.

These are some pictures that Jim included in his post.

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

RIP Tony

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

Another great OT with whom I didn't get to serve. However, the stories I was told that supported the reputation that we all knew, made Tony feel like a dear friend.
Rest in peace Master Chief.
Our condolences to the Alfieri extended family.

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

I met Tony but I don’t think we were stationed together. Like John said, his name and reputation were well known and we salute him as he passes to the other side. God bless him and his family.

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

RIP Tony. It was an honor serving and drinking way too much with you. You were truly a character and great friend. I’m glad I got to serve with you and know you. You’ll be missed.

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

Rest your oars shipmate, we have the watch.

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

I never had the opportunity to serve with Tony but knew the name. It's always sad to learn of another shipmate passing. My sincere condolences to his family. God bless and RIP Master Chief you will be remembered by all who knew you.

Re: Passing of Tony Alfieri

I never had the privilege of working with Tony while on active duty, but did collaborate with him during the OSIPS FTA deployment. I wish I had known him better.

Fair winds Tony... and sincere condolences to his family and friends.
