I was at COSL when this went down and it was an active few days! A friend of mine was the XO on McCloy at the time. Funny story, he said when their tail was snagged they all started sweating bullets on board and were coming up with mutual details about how it happened. Their concerns were made worse when they were told to head back to Norfolk right away. They thought they were in a bind but as they headed towards home the BZ’s started coming in from various superiors. Dave said their relief was indescribable 😂. As a side note, my buddies at Sublant showed me some fascinating video from the event. (USS PHILADELPHIA as I recall)
I remember hearing stories when I got to COSP from the Ota1 Rick Souders. He was on board the McCloy also..
I happened to catch a recent documentary on the USS Thresher. They sent a ROV WITH HD CAMERAS.
They mention SOSUS a few times especially in the aid in locating the sub
Using TDF and other intel.
