In February of this year Deb received her updated driver's license and inadvertently took her military ID out of her wallet and cut it up thinking it was her old license. Well, off we go to a reserve base to get her ID replaced only to find out there was a new format. Long story short, we both got our new ID's. They are strange looking compared to what we were accustomed to for so many years. It doesn't really matter much to us because it rarely gets used anymore where we are located.
I was recently told the same thing by base security at 32nd Street San Diego. When I last got my ID renewed when I turned 65 I was told this would be my last ID card. So much for last time 😀. Call old but I like the old format over the new format.

I was able to request my new USID card using the online website and got the new card within about 10 days.
I found out about the switch from the legacy card to the new Next Generation USID in a monthly DFAS Newsletter. Made an appt online and went to Shaw AFB and got my card a few days later. Not a big deal. They let me keep my blue ID card for posterity too.
