Your one liner reminded me of an occasion in or around 1999 where an ASW symposium was being conducted up in one the New England labs, can't remember which lab. Not important anyway.
I sat in a couple of the morning presentations where the closures of our facilities were discussed in great detail by which the closures were completed and as we all eventually learned, they were closed in a manner that pretty much prevented them from being operational again.
After listening to all I wanted to hear, I went outside of the bldg, bought a hot dog and took a seat far outside of the Atrium so I wouldn't have to take part in any conversation.
Well, after a few minutes had gone by, this gray haired gentleman came over and took a seat nearby and after a few minutes had gone by, he turned and asked what I had thought of the presentations.
I didn't hesitate when I replied, "Well, someone really had their head up their (A) south end when they closed them in the manner that was described".
The gentleman sat quietly for a few minutes and as he was getting up for departure, he said "Sorry you feel that way Master Chief".
Now, I had been retired from Active Duty 14 years at the time and I had not used my Rate for identification in years so I can only surmise that we had met at some time in the past but I don't know when and I certainly didn't recognize him as someone I had met.
A cohort told me later that he had been a senior officer (didn't know his name) in the NAVELEX or PMW area and he had probably been involved in the decision making as per the demise of the NAVFACs. I Certainly didn't mean to offend him personally, whoever he was, but he asked and I gave him my opinion.
I suppose time has proven that maybe he (they) were correct and I was letting my unwillingness to turn loose of the past interfere with my opinions. Who really knows for sure. Your post brought up that memory and thought I would share.
John.....Seems you have a thing with hot dogs. I remember heading up to NAS Bermuda for the weekly meeting (or whatever). You wanted a dog then as well. So a dog outside the meeting..... My mustard pack for my dog was tough and required extra pressure to release its golden goodness. Next thing we both knew your whites were covered in my mustard. I imagine Pat is still upset about that one.
Hope life is good in Mississippi. Keep getting those hot dogs.
