I'm working on a story about NavFac Grand Turk and as I was stationed there in 1966-1967, my memory is not great. For example, I can't remember if there were 3 or 4 oceanographic watch sections in the 1960s. Inside the Fence around the T-building, there were two buildings opposite the front door. One was the generator building and I can't remember what the 2nd building was used for. I think the generator building was front left of the front door - the unknown building was larger and to the front right of the front door. (not counting the guard shack). I have photos, but can't post them here. Please let me know about the watch sections and the two buildings opposite the front door to the T-building. My story will be published in Times of the Islands tci Magazine this winter. PS any one know the whereabouts of Mike Upshaw? He was my supervisor.
I was at Navfac San Sal at the same time 1966-67 - At SSAL there two generators - one for the base power and the special frequency generators for the T Building
Anyone know how many Operational watch sections there were in the 1960s? Three or Four? Were we on a 3 eves, 3 mids & 3 Days followed by 32 hours off? Or was the Oceanographic Watch schedule different?
I was stationed at NAVFAC Nantucket from spring 1964 to fall 1966 as an STG.
We stood 3 watches, 2 Mid to 0800, 2 1600 to 0000 & 2 0800 to 1600 and then
off for 72 hours.
