Away From The Numbers

All good things come to an end. Or so they say. AFTN has been around since 1989, first as a fanzine and then making the jump to a website and forum in 2003. We've been through the many ups and down at East Fife in those 12 years but policing the forum has become a giant pain in the ass in recent years. As such, we made the decision not to renew it when it expired.

The forum is no more and will remain as a locked archive until it is eventually deleted by the host. We're looking in to try to save some of the content as an archive.

This is not the end of AFTN though. The site will continue and will be revamped and return in its full glory for the start of the 2016/17 season. Maybe even sooner. There will be a comment sections and possibly even a new, registered forum. Check our Twitter (@aftnwebsite) for all the latest info and we'll also post in on the EFFC memories Facebook page.

Until then, have a last browse here, thanks for all your support over the years, and 'Mon the Fife.

Re: transfers

Barr Fleming and Cook all signed on two year deals by Naysmith. If I had to guess I would say that McShane will be next. I suspect that Cook and McShane are/where on a decent wage and have hardly justified it.

Budget apparently been cut. Dread to think what he will sign. Just hope the Kelbie and Sweeney rumours are just that. Kelbie has dropped through the leagues and ended up in the Juniors. At 30 I suspect he's found his level. Sweeney is just another midfielder in the Walker Mullen mould. Hardly the creative player we are crying out for. Then again we all know that Gary Negasmith doesn't like forward thinking centre mids.

Re: transfers

Its_Been_A_While
Davidson released from Dundee.

3rd Division probably his level now.[/quote

PLEASE NO

Re: transfers

David Banjo
And marvin Andrews lets signing
Them

Re: transfers

Can't see Andrews wanting to sign but its he ideal type of player we need rarely loses a high ball or a 50/50. I have noticed a lot of players who have been released have hearts connections. Gary glen got released anybody think he would drop down to our league

Re: transfers

I have a workmates who comes originally from Montrose an he is a season ticket holder.

His opinion is that Marvin Andrews is a huge liability and gives goals away. We can confirm see third goal at last Montrose visit to Bayview.

Re: transfers

Speculation that Ryan Goodfellow, a goalie from Dunfermline has signed.

Re: transfers

Anyone else notice that Jonathan Page has been removed from the PFA list of players available. Anyone know who he has signed for?

Hope it's east fife be ashmed he signs for other club he has scored some important goals from defence at corners and him and julen at CB took us to the play-offs and we looked a solid team part from the home defeat to berwick and us having to play 10 men at hampden in the 2nd half of last season. I would like to see shagger back but I think his carrer is finished it's that time of year he's getting older than younger and no to Kenny deuchar he hasn't played much football and probably enjoying life as a doctor than being on the fitbaw field tbh that's the reason he isn't around in the basement league again.
Iain davidson fae dundee look good but was he not a full-time player probably go back to kirkcaldy. Jamie Reid the boy that was on-loan to elgin was on a smiliar deal at stenny and scored a barrel load for them in the first half of last season I can remember looks good striker but I would want to see Craig Gunn sign for us as he is been mention on here a few years back and is a proven goalscorer in this division but I fear he lives too far from fife like the Robbo suitation we had about travelling and same would apply to mcshane was the reason he choose to go out to stranrear.
Barrowman a good shout, but his record he'll attract other clubs and we will miss out on.
Also lavery looks good winger and good shout to sign him as we lost mcaleer now and lithgow fae stenny if page doesn't sign or julen leaves or both. But like someone mention we haven't missed Campbell and I know his loyalty is with east fife I just think page and julen were brilliant at cb and Campbell wasn't a cm either and that's spot on in one of the post above.

No to big marv the players getting a lot older than younger and he'll no sign anyway he has signed for clubs against east fife and choose montrose, his carrer is done so no got Campbell and Julen?
Watch this someone will mention stoney now? So no too. Iain Campbell (cowden), Nat Wedderburn or Andrew Jackson (brechin) gary glen would do a job in this division but out of our reach I think.

I see Iain Turner fae Sheffield utd he is a scotland goalkeeper and was at Everton set-up when gary was at Everton dunno if he would give him a contract back in scotland? Was at dunfermline for a season in the past too and has been in fife could be a rumour too since gary and Iain are both everton's and scotland connection. Iain has now been released by the blades.

Naw, naw I said Simon says. Was that suppose to be a joke?

Re: transfers

From the official website

"We can confirm that Kevin Smith, Fraser Mullen, Jonathan Page & Allan Walker have all agreed to remain at Bayview for season 2015/2016 along with Nathan Austin, Lewis Barr, Ross Brown, Steven Campbell, Alan Cook, Allan Fleming and Jon McShane.

We also welcome goalkeeper Ryan Goodfellow to the fold."

Really, really hope we can add Julen's name to that list but doubt it.

Re: transfers

Jon McShane?!! How's he been kept on?

When he signed he signed a two year deal

Not bad, there's a team there already.

Re: transfers

I've mentioned the last 2 Seasons that we should try and get Craig Gunn,i also think David Mackenna would be a good addition, whats your views on these 2 guys..

Re: transfers

eh?
Jon McShane?!! How's he been kept on?

Special team - he'll take the penalties.

Re: transfers

Alan Walker?

Jesus wept.

Re: transfers

We have taken a boy from newcraughall vics who are a amateur team in Edinburgh on trial. His trial will take place on Friday, his name is Leighton and plays upfront or behind the striker!

Re: transfers

Mr Angry
Alan Walker?

Totally agree, Running around waving your hands with a high screeched squeel, not watching the play when things need to move fast, huffy attitude towards rest of team (Im better than you attitude) coupled with the fact that he only ever challenges 50% of the time, when Lewis goes in 100% of the time.

He was by far the weakest link we had playing towards the end of the season, not a fan at all.

Cookie is another one that looks jinky on wing but wrong choices and poor final ball make him another I was not happy with.

I hope Gary does move on, that way there is a chance that a new manager will get rid of them both and go for some more quality players, there are plenty about now from League 1 and 2, it takes a good manager to get them in......if Gary cant do that then he has to go.

Re: transfers

Greig Spence released by Alloa would be a good signing for us as would Nathan Blockley of Airdrie. Hope there is news soon of some new players soon. Getting Jules to re-sign would be the best piece of business tho !

No idea. I imagine Julen will be keeping his options open for the next month or so. He must have offers from other teams in the league above, surely? Fingers crossed he decides to stick with his studies and continue playing for us part-time. Heard Stirling Albion have also offered him a deal.

Re: transfers

sammy
Just heard that 1 of our so - called "signed" players has signed for a rival club.
Should become public within 48 hours.

If this is true then my guess would be Julen signing for Stirling Albion.

Julep hasn't signed

Re: transfers

Joshua watt
Jamie McCluskey
Ross Caldwell
Craig Slutherland
Nathan Blockley
Gregor Fotheringham
Jim Paterson
Stuart Urqhart
Alex Whittle
Gordon Smith
Evan the boy Lavery from berwick would be decent.

Those players are without a club in the league above. Most of all Watt stood out in both play-off games last season against us a player I want to see at the club or the club to offer a contract to but these players are ideal for the forthcoming squad if I was Gary and sadly we hearing were going for Banjo and Sweeney must be mental if we don't want watt here.

Re: transfers

The playing budget is much reduced.

Worth keeping that in mind before expressing disappointment in the players Gary may be looking at.

Stevenson cut the budget to £60K when Jim Moffat was manager. If that is the resources we have to play with Gary will have a hard job just to keep us off the bottom.

Re: transfers

Julen Etxabeguren signs a 3 year deal with Dundee - clicky.

Re: transfers

Julen is away to dundee. Three year deal

It what you do with those resources that counts. We had one of the largest budgets last season I believe and a fat lot of good it did us. Anyway didn't Jim Moffat get us promoted?

Brilliant headline, mind.

Heard through the grapevine that Julen has signed for Dundee.

I don't believe you.

Re: transfers

Has lewis barr left the club? this was posted on his twitter account saying: Just like to wish everyone at @EastFifeFC all the best. Feel lucky to have played for such a great club and Will cherish the memories 👍❤️

Re: transfers

Looks like it, gutted about that!

Yeah and our squad seems to be getting smaller by the weeks with players been kept on then leaving. Brings me no surprised he looked certain to leave out of managers choice last season as walker was ahead of him even when walker was poor, barr wanted first team starts and probably it's the reason behind that. We certainly need signings and no more exits from the club. Am also surprised mcshane is kept maybe we will see a different player who knows I thought he was homesick was the reason he signed for stranrear in the first place.

Re: transfers

Barr goes and Walker stays. You couldn't make it up! Onwards and upwards eh?

Re: transfers

Apparently we've signed Kevin Kelbie from Linthgow Rose!!!

Re: transfers

I see East Fife are being linked with Dougie Hill in the Courier today - I know you've signed endless duds from Rovers in recent years, but this one will buck the trend. Strong commanding centre half who's discipline has improved greatly. Myself and most other Rovers fans were a bit sorry we didn't re-sign him. There's no danger of him going to another full-time club as he has a well paid job, but I thought someone like Alloa or Dumbarton would snap him up. Great bit of business for you lot if you get him.

does he live in Fife?

Re: transfers

I'm sure he lives in Edinburgh or Midlothian.
He works as a plumber / heating engineer and drives a rather tasty motor.
The late Turnbull Hutton saw his car and remarked 'We must be paying you far too much money' to which Dougie replied 'Naw, it's just I'm a better plumber than I am a fitba player'.

Big step down I am surprised forfar or that aren't in the shout for him he would do a job here and love to see him join than the ones were rumour about sweeney just can't see us signing anyone than what we seen in the last few days with players released that have been signed do we have the money to bring in this sort of player in?
Any news on that horrible looking home top we are getting or guess it be late July/august time again as Clyde & Stirling have released theirs nice and early to it be placed in the club shop, guess we are waiting on sponsors and looks like the same away top wored 2 years running quite like the dumbarton Joma top someone posted on the kit topic. Early days though

Re: transfers

Clyde in pole position to sign Darren lavery would of liked him at bayview, any one heard of any players we're looking at??
